Doula Services

It is my belief that the steady and loving presence of a doula can help to reduce stress for the birthing family. My primary responsibility as a doula is to be a human being in a room full of people who have other primary responsibilities. I accompany women and their partners during their birthing time. I help provide physical, emotional, and informational support to women and their partner. I am independent and self-employed. As your doula, I am working for you, not for your caregiver or the hospital.

As your doula:
• I see my role as connecting you with resources and empowering you to find your unique way on through this transitional time. You can ask my opinion, but I will also always encourage you to do your own research and self-reference.
• I do not perform clinical tasks, such as fetal heart checks, vaginal exams, etc. I am there to provide only physical and emotional support and advocacy.
• I do not make decisions for you. I will help you get the information you need to make your own informed decisions. I will remind you of the visions and intentions of your birth plan. I will hold space for you to self-reference.
• I will not speak to medical staff regarding matters where health care decisions are being made. I can discuss your concerns with you and suggest options. I can support you in discussions with staff as your advocate, making sure you have the opportunity to discuss concerns, but you or your partner will speak on your behalf to the medical staff.
• My intention to stay with you, tracking you and supporting you through the contractions and expansions of birthing.

Doula Care Includes:

  • Interview (free of charge). Usually 45 min-1 hour, this is a chance for us to meet so we can get a sense of each other and you can ask your questions.
  • 2 Prenatal Visits. Usually lasting 1-2 hours each. Comfort and support looks for each woman is different. Prenatal visits are an opportunity for us to practice and discover what receiving comfort and support looks like for you.
  • Labor Support. Highly variable in time. I join you
  • 2 Postpartum Visits. Usually lasting 1-2 hours each. The first postpartum visit is usually the day after the birth, this creates continuity and some initial support after the birth. The 2nd postpartum is usually about 2 weeks after the birth and is the time for integrative processing and saying goodbye.
